Soft Scrub

Skin Support Recipes

Lemon Peppermint Foot Scrub

½ cup white sugar
½ cup raw turbinado sugar (I have used regular brown sugar in the past)
½ cup sweet almond oil, or coconut oil
8 drops Young Living Lemon essential oil
8 drops Young Living Peppermint essential oil
Mix all ingredients in a small bowl and store in a clean 8oz jar. To use: Rub into your wet feet with hands or pumice stone, paying extra attention to your heels. Rinse off with warm water, dry and apply lotion.
This scrub can be used on the body as well, though it will make you tingly so be careful of sensitive bits! Those who are very sensitive skinned or pregnant can substitute lavender for peppermint in this recipe!

Fruit Enzyme Masks

Natural enzymes from fruit and honey will exfoliate the skin by dissolving dead skin cells without disrupting healthy cells. These masks only work on the very surface of the skin and should not be done more than twice weekly, as over exfoliation can cause the problems already mentioned. I just love this mask in particular, as it includes ingredients that can be found all summer long!

Mango Papaya Honey Mask

1/4  mango

1/4  papaya

1 T raw organic honey

Young Living Palmarosa oil

Cut up mango and papaya–mash together papaya and mango chunks (equal parts) in a small bowl – or use blender / processor add raw organic honey add 2 drops Young Living Palmarosa oil (known for skin rejuvenation and boosting cellular activity, as well as balancing oil and moisture levels in the skin!). Stir until honey is completely incorporated cleanse skin and leave damp, pull hair away from face apply thick layer of the mask and massage in gently leave on skin for at least 15 minutes rinse thoroughly (warm compressing optional). Apply appropriate serum or moisturizer.

Homemade Facial Moisturizer

½ c coconut oil
2 tsp almond oil
1 tbsp cocoa butter
5 drops Frankincense essential oil
5 drops Lavender Essential Oil
4 oz mason Jar
Place all ingredients in the bowl of your stand mixer.
Whip on high for 4-5 minutes until it is light and fluffy. Scrape down the sides of the bowl occasionally to include all of it. Transfer contents to the mason jar. Use after every face wash.

Lavender Honey Body Wash

¼ c coconut oil
¼ c raw honey
½ c liquid castile soap
½ tsp vitamin E
25 drops lavender essential oil
Scoop coconut oil into a microwave safe bowl and heat on medium setting for 30 seconds until melted. Add honey, lavender, and vitamin E and whisk together. Add castille soap slowly, stirring gently to avoid creating suds. Transfer to glass bottle.
Shake before each use.

Bath Salts

1/2 cup Epsom salt
1/2 cup sea salt
1/4 cup baking soda
10 drops of essential oil
Mix salts and baking soda together. Add essential oils, mix well. Keep in a closed jar for at least one day, and let salts absorb oils. Use 1/4 cup for bath.

Bye Bye Dimply Skin

½ C coffee grounds
¼ c extra virgin olive oil
2 tbsp brown sugar
10 drops grapefruit
10 drops citrus fresh
Mix all together and place in glass jar with a lid.
In the shower, rub on thighs or wherever needed. Rinse and dry off.

Lip Balm

2 T coconut oil
2 T sweet almond oil
1 T beeswax
1/4 tsp vitamin e oil
8 drops oil
Heat first 3 ingredients over heat til combined, whisk in last 2, pour in lip balm tubs or tins.

Homemade Body Butter

1/2 cup shea butter
1/4 cup coconut oil
1/4 cup olive or almond oil
5 drops of Lavender essential
5 drops of Manuka essential oil
5 drops of Frankincense essential oil
Combine all ingredients except the essential oil in a double boiler or small saucepan over medium heat. Heat until everything is melted. Pour into another bowl and let cool for a good hour (in the fridge if you’re in a hurry), or until the oils are just starting to consider re-solidifying (this is important – you won’t be able to whip it up if they’re still too liquid). When the oil mixture is starting to solidify around the edges, start beating with a hand mixer. Then add your essential oils. Continue for a few more minutes, or until it looks kinda like whipped cream, forming stiff peaks.  Transfer to a jar or other storage. Should keep for a long while. Can change the oils out to any combination you want!

Cleaning With Thieves

Many years ago, I stopped using carpet shampoo.  Mainly because it didn’t matter how many times I went over the carpet with the carpet cleaner, I would still pull up soap.  Instead, I started using vinegar water. 1-2 tablespoons of vinegar to 1 gallon of water.  It worked!  It picked up the dirt and stains out of the carpet just as well as carpet shampoo.  However, just like the carpet shampoo, it didn’t pick up everything.  There were still those tough stains and common foot traffic areas that wouldn’t ever come up.  I would spray a chemical-filled-cleaner for carpets and pet stains and go over it about 2 million times with the carpet cleaner.  I could still see the sudsiness (that’s a word, right?) coming up from the carpet. Gross!

When I decided to start my toxic-free journey, I realized I needed to find something better to get those tough areas.  I fell in love with Thieves Cleaner the first time I used it.  I use it in the kitchen, bathrooms, floors, outside and now it was time to try it on the carpet.*  I have to say, I was not disappointed.  I sprayed the carpet with Thieves Cleaner, put vinegar water into the carpet cleaner and went to work.  As you can see in the pictures, the results were fantastic!

*Always test with a small portion of carpet before using in on any sort of carpet or fabric.

Spring Catalog

The spring catalog items are available as of April1 (tomorrow). There are some super cute items, as well as some nice sets for yourself or gift giving. In most cases, the sets are slightly discounted from what it would cost to buy each of the oils individually, although the prices aren’t posted yet (that I can see) so we’ll have to wait a few hours for that. Since stock can fluctuate quickly…hello, remember there are 2 million members, I’m going to just push my April ER order through tomorrow on 4/1 if I end up wanting to get any of the spring products.

Here’s the link.

Young Living Foundation

If you didn’t know, Young Living has a foundation of which the company pays 100% of the administrative costs, so anything you give goes to the actual work, not to the overhead. They do service trips throughout the year, and the next two are coming up in April and May.

And, pretty cool that the founder of the company will be on these trips. It’s a billion dollar company so he could for sure be chilling on a beach somewhere, but he’ll be building houses in Nepal and opening the primary school that was built there by the foundation.

The information is below and applications are being accepted through April 7. At some point in the future I would love to go on one of the service trips, and maybe you want to go this time. If so, submit your application. Click the image form more information.

Orange Blossom Facial Wash

If you, like me, are always looking for ways to stretch a dollar, here’s a suggestion. You can get the foaming bottles on Amazon or even the 99cent store, put in a small amount of cleanser and top with water.

This size foaming bottle lasts me about 2 1/2 months washing two times a day with two pumps of suds. That means a 4 ounce bottle of Orange Blossom Face Wash will last about 10 months on that pace. It’s an upfront investment that ends up lasting a long time.

This is a great idea for other foaming products too (body wash, for example). Save money, make your product last, and get all the great benefits from it. And, how much do I love this face wash?? So much!!
