Why should we choose Young Living over Store oils when they’re cheaper and organic?
The oils from Young Living are 100% pure therapeutic oils. Nothing added and nothing taken away. They do not have synthetics that are harmful and dangerous, and they are not lab replicated (ie: chemicals to make an oil smell like they think it’s supposed to smell). They’re not cut with a carrier oil such as almond or coconut oil (unless you purchase a roll-on which has a carrier specifically so you don’t have to dilute it). It’s taken directly from the plant. This gives peace of mind that even a 100% organic label from another company can’t give me. Additionally, Young Living is the ONLY essential oil company in the world that owns their own farms to grow their crop. Every other company buys their product in bulk at some point. Young Living tests and maintains pure, organic, therapeutic grade from the time the seed is put into the ground to the time it’s sealed into the bottle.
Therapeutic grade oils are almost never sold in retails stores or online shopping websites. They might be organic, but they distill it in a way that is cheaper and faster (hence the cheaper price tag) which kills the compounds that make up the molecules; meaning that the beneficial properties are gone. Kinda defeats the point of using essential oils! When oils are distilled at low temperatures and low pressure the healing properties are preserved, but it takes a lot of time and a lot more money to do it that way. Over 90% of the oils that are sold as “essential” in America are food or fragrance grades and are NOT suitable for healing applications. Young Living oils are safe to apply, diffuse AND ingest… because they are 100% organic. If you see “do not ingest” on the bottle, run in the other direction because you’re basically buying it for the smell only. Just like the food industry, “legally” there only has to be 10% of the actual oil in there to be considered 100% peppermint (or whatever oil it is)… which is part of the reason Young Living oils are so great- there are no fillers, additives, etc etc. It’s actually 100% peppermint essential oil. Truly, you get what you pay for with essential oils.
Seed to Seal
Seed to Seal is what really caught my eye when I first discovered Young Living. I am a gardener and I love growing my own food. There’s nothing like picking the fresh tomato right off the vine and knowing exactly where it came from and what was (or wasn’t) sprayed onto the plant. In other words, I can control the quality of the soil, ensure herbicides and pesticides were never sprayed near my plants, and my fruits and veggies are picked at the peak ripeness to ensure the best flavor and quality.
That’s exactly what Seed to Seal is.
Before Young Living buys land, they test the soil to ensure no harmful chemicals are in it. They use the very best variety of plants and test it’s seeds before planting. Their farms are never sprayed with harmful pesticides or herbicides. They use essential oils for bug control and the good ole’ elbow grease to keep weeds out. Young Living’s founder, Gary Young, understands weeds are a part of nature, and as much as they would like to have 0 weeds, it isn’t always possible. When the plant is ready for harvest, they harvest it at the specific time of day (or night) that is required to get the highest quality of essential oils. But it doesn’t stop there. They use the highest quality of materials to distill. They use stainless steel and high quality plastic so no metals or chemicals seep into the oils. Whereas many companies will cut corners and use cheaper materials such as aluminum and cheap quality plastic.
Next the essential oils are tested 3 times in Young Living’s state-of-the-art labs to make sure the oils are pure and high quality. Next the oils are sent to a private lab where they are tested 3 more times. Finally they are bottled, sealed, and sent to the consumer. And that’s Seed to Seal!
So how can you trust that this really is the process?
Young Living has farms all over the world and they are open to the public. This summer our team had the opportunity to visit Mona, Utah’s lavender farm and tour the distillery. It was such an amazing experience! They were distilling juniper that day which created a nice woody aroma. So if you are ever in the area of one of there farms, stop by and check it out!
